Thank God somebody asked ....!!!
The situation is as follows:
My fstab entry looks like
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy ext2 defaults 0 0
When I issue the mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy , linux says /dev/fd0 is not a
valid block device...., but if I issue a
mount /dev/fd0H1440 /mnt/floppy, the cursor remains blinking, and the
floppy drive on till I press the button to eject the floppy (and I did this
after a while...) , then I got a message like " I/O Error".
Of course the format of the diskette is Linux , not DOS.
If I issue a fdformat -n /dev/fd0H1440, it works fine but if I don't add
the "-n" I got the same situation as above after the formatting and during
the verifying process.
I am clueless since I had no problems with Vanderbilt ( kernel 2.0.26 , i
think....)
THKS once more !!!
