thanks! - Yes, somehow I had a LARGE directory /mnt/floppy/dev that was not 
on the floppy ( I probably didn't have it mounted at the time).

I still have one problem, when I run df, I get the following error at the 
end

df: /tmp/mkbootdisk: No such file or directory
df: /tmp/initrd.mnt-20008: No such file or directory

One of the things I was doing when the disk got full was mkbootdisk.
