Maybe, maybe not. What do you do with your computer?

I've had very good experiences with using the RedHat install process to
upgrade my machines, but there can be hitches depending upon what sort
of stuff you run. In case you didn't know this already, 5.0 is where RH
made the jump from libc5 to glibc, which introduces incompatibilities in
some libc binaries -- meaning that they won't work on your upgraded
system. There can be ways around this (installing second sets of
libraries alongside your main glibc libraries, for example), many of
which are present by default in 5.1, and of course if everything on your
system can be upgraded by the RedHat installer then you shouldn't have
anything to worry about. The only way to know for sure whether you'll
have trouble is to try it.

If you have the luxury of a second machine or a free partition on your
existing machine, you might want to try installing 5.1 there and trying
it out for a while. If not, then I wouldn't be all that scared of
upgrading, all usual cautions about current backups applying of course.
