i've upgraded and recompiled the 2.0.35-2 kernel with modular sound.
utilyzing isapnptool-1-15a i executed the pnpdump routine and edited the

isapnp.conf file accordingly. i enabled the debug option to ensure that
it was loading correctly.

i have also edited the conf.modules file so as to load the drivers upon
bootup:

alias scsi_hostadapter advansys
alias midi opl3
options -k opl3 io=0x388
alias midi_1 mpu401
options -k mpu401 irq=9 io=0x330
alias sound cs4232
options -k cs4232 io=0x534 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=3

here are a series of messages taken from dmesg:
i'm confused by mpu401.c i/o port...

ad1848/cs4248 codec driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
mpu401.c: I/O port 534 already in use
YM3812 and OPL-3 driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen, Rob Hooft
1993

the cat /dev/sndstat contains:

Sound Driver:3.5.4-960630
Kernel: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.0.35 #1 Sat Oct 24 20:34:51 EDT
1998 i586
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:

Card config:

Audio devices:
0: CS4232 (CS4232) (DUPLEX)

Synth devices:
0: Yamaha OPL-3

Midi devices:
0: MPU-401 1.5A Midi interface #1

Timers:
0: System clock
1: MPU-401 Timer
2: CS4232 (CS4232)

Mixers:
0: CS4232 (CS4232)

my question is, what is causing the 534 conflict? it appears to me that
it is the
cs4232 setting. i've changed this to other appropriate i/o's and the
result is
that what ever the setting of cs4232, upon bootup this line, mpu401.c
will specify
that this port is in use. should i be concerned? how can i change that?

there is no soundcard on this mb, the sound is on board(intel).
i'm still a bit unclear or should i say muddled on how to get sound
working on my system.
i've exhausted all the howtos and faqs so if there is any advice you can
afford me
i will be much appreciative.

jack
