Problems with 2 NICs

I am trying to set up a computer with two NICs. I cannot get the second
card recognized. I have edited the conf-modules file by inserting the
two aliases
and given the parameters, but on boot I get a message that eth1
initialization is delayed.
after booting, modprobe of the card gives no errors, but it remains an
unknown interface.
I have also created the necessary ifcfg-eth1 file. Any suggestions?
Using a stock 5.1 install. Relyuing on module support for NICs.
