You don't need to recompile!
Kernel 2.0.35-2 already supports FAT32.

FAT32 support lives in the 'vfat' module that kernel-2.0.35-2.i386.rpm
installs, along with the kernel itself.

If you run kerneld, the vfat module loads automatically when
you mount a filesystem using mount -t vfat.

You can still compile, if you need the exercise but it's not necessary
if you just want FAT32 support.
