Whatever happened to the Altavista engine? I've never tried it myself but
I've heard good things about it. It would require making the lists into
webpages, but that's relatively simple.

Alternatively someone could build a search engine round jBase - a real
killer of a database. Maybe someone at RedHat ought to talk to us in the
true spirit of open source and let one of us have a 'bash' at it.
