Please check these with /sbin/ifconfig.  I just ran across an open linux
box that we would set everything in netcfg in X but the changes would never
show up or impliment properlly in ifconfig.  This was all ran as root and
restarting all network services.  Possibly my customers setup (this is the
first customer I've seen that has actually bought a pre-configure linux
server), or more than likely me  : ) .
