Xconfigurator help--everything's gigantic

Okay, this is the third time i've installed Red Hat on a computer, but
i'm still a newbie in this area. I've resurrected this old Pentium 133
and have successfully installed Red Hat, but i'm having trouble with X.
During the initial installation, my Trident TG9660 was detected.
(Actually i think its a 9680, but what's "detected" is a 9660.) The
installer had trouble probing the video memory (i think that this was
its excuse) and skipped the installation of XF86. So, when the
installation was over i found that X wasn't installed, so i installed it
myself. When i start X-Windows everything's HUGE. I think the start
button's about one by two inches. I've tried several different screen
resolution settings in the Xconfigurator, but nothing changes. X-Windows
is thus useless for the moment, as nothing fits on the screen.
I'm using the "generic monitor" setting, although i've tried several
other monitor settings. I've tried 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit at various
resolutions. I have 4 megs of video RAM, i think. Since Xconfigurator
seems to know what kind of card i have, i'm confused as to why i can't
get the resolution correct. Any hints?
