thanks for all of your suggestions. what i finally ended up doing was
making my /tmp directory write-able by everyone. is that what it should
be? i've tried verifying with rpm -V filesystem but it simply says that
somethings been changed w.r.t permissions. can it show you what the
permissions should be? thanks again,
