Hello,
I am still having problems with email. Here is my setup. I have an RH5.0
server running:
Primary DNS
Sendmail
Apache/FTP
I am using this server to host webpages and email accounts. It is the sole
server in its domain. I have the MX record pointing to the server
(server.foo.com):
foo.com. IN NS server.foo.com.
server IN A xxx.xxx.xxx.x (class C)
foo.com. IN MX 10 server.foo.com.
www IN CNAME server.foo.com.
ftp IN CNAME server.foo.com.
WWW and FTP works just fine. I can query with nslookup without problems.
Here is my problem:
When I send an email from an outside domain to user@foo.com, I get returned
email stating the "MX Record is pointing to itself"? At first, I got a "We
do not relay" message. Why would I have gotten that? So, I added a line in
relay_allow stating foo.com. Now I am getting the MX record message. I have
no problems sending email, just receiving. To be honest, I really don't know
that if it did receive inbound mail that sendmail would put it in it's
proper place. I did receive an email to root (on server.foo.com) saying the
same message as I got from my returned email. Can someone shed some light on
this? I have put a .procmailrc file in my users directory and a .forward
also (what is the format of .forward and do I really need these?) following
the directions in the dot file generator. ALL help is greatly appreciated.
