I certainly wouldn't go that far. I LIKE GUIs, however, as has been
mentioned many times before, neither HTML nor V-cards add ANYTHING to the
content of newsgroup or mailing list messages. They are TOTALLY
unnecessary and take up more space than necessary. I don't care how
cheap HDDs become, etc, it is a stupid waste of diskspace to store HTML
and v-card laden messages on one's HDD.
In addition, using myself as an example...I use Communicator for all my
newsgroup and mailing needs (simply because I prefer one integrated app
rather than a bunch of separate apps). Obviously it can handle HTML,
etc, just fine...but I STILL have deselected the HTML code button for my
messages so that I ONLY send plain text. There are times, however, when
I use other apps for the same purposes...and some of them are text-based
and do not DO HTML, etc. I am either not always at MY computer or it is
simply quicker to use a smaller, tighter, faster app (which are
invariably text-based) which is not necessarily going to handle HTML and
v-cards.
V-cards are nonsensical. Signature lines can handle EVERYTHING a V-card
can in a fraction of the memory space and in a way that is compatible
with ALL means of reading email, newsgroups, and mailing list messages.
That is reason enough to do dick with silly, unneeded extras. That is
the Bill Gates way of doing things...not a logical, thinking person's way
of doing them.
