I haven't looked at the lpd source lately, but I seem to recall that you
need a pr filter option in your /etc/printcap for the -p option to work
correctly.
Most of the 'optional formatting' options to lpr will work only if you
have the actual commands in /etc/printcap to do the formatting. The Red
Hat print system does not set up that stuff in /etc/printcap 'cause
(almost) nobody uses them anymore.
