You need to be running pppd 2.3.5 with the recent 2.1.x kernels. The
reason is that the code uses a strcmp which decides that 125 < 16.
Obviously using strcmp is a bad way to compare numbers and this was
fixed shortly after 2.1.100 came out. The ppp-2.3.5 rpm is probably in
contrib on ftp.redhat.com and mirrors.
You should check the Changes file (in /usr/src/linux/Documentation) to
see if there are any other programs that you would need to upgrade.
I think that 5.1 doesn't ship with recent enough modutils, net-tools,
procps and procinfo. I may have missed some others, but at least this
is a start.
