I'm no expert at these things, but just want to point out that you are
trying to defeat what is known as the user private group scheme. I think
it's documented inthe RH book that comes with the boxed version. Anyway it's
a really cool idea. If youve every worked on multiple projects at the same
time you will appreciate it. If my default group was proj1, and I'm helping
out on project 2 ( with group proj2, all file I create are likely to be
inaccesable by the proj2 giys ( depending on your umask of course ). This
sucks. The answer is to use the user private group scheme and set the group
on the directories that will be shared. then all files created in those
directories will have the right group.
this is a bit of an oversimplification, but I hope I got the point across.
If you want this users group for those reasons, see if you can do that.
