It is indeed dependent on the server. The two main servers I know of
that allow this are ncftpd and wu-ftpd. I'd be willing to bet proftpd
does, as well. Anyway, another way to do it is to get entire directories
tarred and/or gzipped. For example, if I wanted to mirror redhat from
ftp.ou.edu, I'd cd to /mirrors/linux/redhat/redhat-5.1 and type 'get
i386.tar.gz'. That'd send me the entire i386 dir, tarred and gzipped.
