Problems with telnet

I completely re-installed redhat 5.1 on my box yesterday. Now when I try
to telnet to the box it says:
Red Hat Linux release 5.1 (Manhattan)
Kernel 2.0.34 on an i586
but never gives me the login prompt. Is there a config that I missed
somewhere?
