Then,   install /RedHat/RPMS/rpm-2.5-2.i386.rpm
from the same CD, to replace the rest of the
stuff that comes with rpm.

# rpm -U --force rpm-2.5-2.i386.rpm

Or, get the newest:  rpm-2.5.3-5.1.i386.rpm.

Be SURE to read http://www.redhat.com/errata though:
You have to give two or three simple commands to make the
newest rpm work.  It could be worthwhile, since several
other new upgrades do require rpm-2.5.3-5.1
