DISK BOOT FAILURE...Yikes!

Hi,
I recently installed kernel 2.0.35 (Red Hat 5.1) on a new computer (P2/350,
128MB RAM, 11.8 GB HDD) and after a easy installation, I got this error on
reboot -
Verifying DMI Pool Data........
Not found any [active partition] in HDD
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
I've never seen an error like that. I checked the partitions to make sure
hda1 wasn't more than 1023 blocks in size (it was at 1000), and told the
installation to install LILO in the MBR. Checking the BIOS, the HDD is set
to LBA mode. The trick is, though, when I insert the 3.5" boot disk, it
loads LILO and the system boots up and runs like a dream.
What's the source of my problems? Should I change the mode to LARGE
instead? Thanks for any advice you may have.
