Is it the only command that shows that message?.. try a ps -aux if that
works,
maybe the /bin/who is corrupted...
"who" knows... :-)
I don't think you run out of space, did you?.. anyway, if ps -aux works,
then that's not the problem...
BTW what's the average number of users your machine handle (at a time?).
When did this start?.. any task you have performed before?.. have you done a
succesfuly "who" before, under similar circumstances?
Hope that helps find out the cause.
