I can't say what your problem would be, but I run Samba on my 
486, was sx33 now dx2/66 and top was usually showing that 
system was running 80-90% idle, and I have about 5-6 shares 
setup on the linux box what my win95 machine connects to all the 
time.  

innd on the other hand when it starts up uses a few resources..
