Adding 2nd SCSI card to /etc/conf.modules

In the past I have added a 2nd SCSI card to systems by adding an
"insmod driver name" to my rc.local file. While this works, it is
less that desirable since fstab is processed before rc.local, so I
can't add the drives on the 2nd card to fstab.
After looking in the conf.modules file I see that when I setup the
system, it put alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx in for me. I have an
NCR card I'm gonna add to the system, so I looked in another machine
that is running this card and it has alias scsi_hostadapter ncr53c8xx
in it's conf.modules.
Now, I know I just can't add the 2nd alias to the box's config files,
so what is the "correct" way to add the modules for the 2nd SCSI card?
