Perhaps you need a better telnet program. The one with Windows stinks. If
replacing that doesn't make people happy, there are web-based email
programs.
We are using our own copy of MailSpinner. (www.nascent.com) Also, there
has been a great deal of discussion about web-email software on the
inet-access mailing list lately. You might want to hunt down the archive
for that, as there are several other products to do the same.
Another option which could have worked for LAN use would be to use Eudora
and have the mailboxes be in each person's ~ on the linux machine (map up
to /home/USERNAME with Samba). The whenever each person logged into
windows, their email would be safely on the network drive mapped to their
~, or the UNC path to their ~ ( \\server\home ). I would no longer
recommend this, as programs like BackOrifice which are a snap to install
are able to dig out all sorts of network passwords which Windows caches.
Infact, installation of BO could be done accidentally!
This makes telnet and web-based email all the more attractive.
BO can also capture keystrokes too. But I wouldnt worry about that as much
as a treasure trove of stored windows networking passwords which Windows
holds on to. (Makes the cute and yellowed with age VT220 terminals very
attractive for doing email)
