Netscape Setup?

Forgive me for being in a coma....
Are there any changes that Netscape needs to work properly?
I have the libraries that came with the RH 4.0 Linux
I made a link to the java_30 file so that netscape could find it in a
place it would look as advised in Readme.
I'm wondering because I have some java applets that look ok with
appletviewer but I can only sometimes see them with Netscape.
The results from the <APPLET CODE= ....> line in my html file are
sometimes invisible or only the upper left-hand corner of the graphics are
visible.
Any setup changes I ought to know about?
