I run wabi2.2 with a sort of Redhat 3.0.3 install. My system is used for
some strange development stuff so it is pretty diverse from any Linux
"standard". Wabi works just fine. Caldera likes to sell their CND, but
it is not necessary to run wabi. It is necessary if you want "official"
support from Caldera as they will only troubleshoot folks who run their
system. Which is understandable, given the recent discussion we had on
this list.
It runs _most_ win3.1 stuff that does NOT require win32s. On Sun's site,
there is a list of "official" supported MS apps that work with wabi2.2.
I have gotten some other stuff to run, but wabi is NOT 100%. There is a
wabi-users list that caldera maintains that this question and thread
should probably move to.
In short wabi is really nice for some things, but it also has some draw
backs as noted plus the way in which MS windows communicate with an OS is
the exact opposite of how X windows works and thus there are some
problems with window management. Mostly that ALL wabi windows and icons
are "sticky" and there is no way to change that. Working with virtual
desktops is sort of a pain then as the wabi windows and icons follow to
all desktops.
