I've done the same, upgrading using a floppy drive (until I got to the point
I could bring up a null-modem PPP link), and found that rpm files can be
renamed willy-nilly; they include their package name and version and release
internally. (Another way is to put all the files in a large .tar archive on
the zip disk.)
