I just installed a copy of RedHat 4.0 on my i486/66. Everything was
finally running dandy (well except I can't run X at 16-bit <G>). I wanted
to upgrade my kernel.... I had done this before in Slack 3.0...
Although I am a newbie to linux I figured it wouldn't be hard... I
downloaded the source and untarred it into /usr/src/linux. I had to delete
the old 2.0.18 source because I didn't have enough space on my partition...
I did a make xconfig, make dep; make clean; make zlilo and make modules
and modules_install... No problem I thought... so I rebooted and saw it
was still running 2.0.18... So I look in /etc and see no lilo.conf only
lilo.conf.orig... I copy it over do the kernel thing again.... Same
thing... I look in /boot and realize that they are the old vmlinuz and
System.map so I copy over the ones in / and change the lilo.conf to point
to /vmlinuz instead of /boot/vmlinuz...
However when I bootup I get module dependancy errors up the wazoo...
Everything seems to work (I have PPP compiled as a module) but the errors
are annoying... Can someone point me to information or tell me what I did
wrong when upgrading??? I didn't think I had to wait for an rpm but do i???
Thanks!
matt
