As one of the people that writes this kind of software (CAD, 3D Rendering,
etc.), let me assure you that the claim is not bogus. Either you are using only
a very limited subset of those programs you mention, you have become numbed to
software failures as just 'the way things are', or you have been extremely lucky
to date.
When you do start to run into problems with Windows software, remember Linux. I
am currently working on client/server networking software. When things don't
work the way they are supposed to, I abandon the Windows clients and servers and
test using Linux. More often than not this reveals deficiencies in the
non-Linux software --enough so that we may soon be replacing a significant chunk
of one of our demos with a Linux implementation: we need something that works
right now; we'll fight to make it work on NT later.
