That's the beauty of RPM. Install it in any order basically. It'll tell
you if it can update it or is dependent on another package. Put all the
patches in a directory and type:
rpm -Uvh *.rpm
Some may bail, but then run the command again until you don't get an
error. This is the <SIMPLE> way.

Depends on wether or not all your hardware is supported with the installed
kernel. It's FUN so why not give it a try. Be sure to read the docs in
/usr/src/linux on how to do it!

NO! NO! NO! Leave root as root! It's dangerous to be futzing around as
root. Use adduser (or is it add_user) to add a non-privledged user. Then
'su' to root when necessary! Otherwise, use a non-privledged user.

Rebuild the kernel and I THINK that you sound card will be supported, but
don't quote me on that.
Above all, EXPERIMENT. You bought the CDs so it's much easier for you to
re-install if you screw up. And the best way to learn is to screw up and
then fix it.
