The packages are on /dev/sda4 under RedHat/RPMS, as per the
installation instructions.  Come to think of it, my /etc/fstab does
have entries for /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, which the install program
couldn't see since it assumes I have only one scsi adaptor (like any
sane person).  Could this be causing all the problems?

I'm at work, but my fstab is essentially as follows:

  /dev/sda1 is mounted as /dos
  /dev/sda2 is swap
  /dev/sda3 is mounted as /
  /dev/sda4 is mounted as /home
  /dev/sdb1 is mounted as /scratch
  /dev/sdc1 is mounted as /archive

I also have a cdrom entry in fstab.  There's nothing important on
either /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sdc1: they are just data storage disks.

What other information is needed?
