I have exactly the same setup. I was able to get Metro-X to work OK. I
think in better than 800x600 mode. But, I have some comments.
1. I got Accelerated-X ($99 from xinside (www.xinside.com)).
It is really first class. Among the best $99 I have spent. Much
better than Metro-X anyway. Better color, better speed, easy
configuration, etc.
2. XFree 3.2 now supports the Matrox Millenium, so you might want to try
to move up to XFree 3.2. I think there is an rpm (although it is not
officially supported by RH.
