Sorry for the confusion. You had said that on one of your installs the
file /var/lib/updatedb existed, and on another install it didn't exist. I
simply meant that there is a 'cron job' that runs about 3am I think, and
creates this file. This is how it was there one time, and not another.
There is no problem with leaving your computer on overnight, but don't
forget to shut your monitor off :) Screen savers protect the phosphor, but
don't help to extend the live of the CRT. :)
