I dont remember who it was but someone told me that I should
or we should STOP this thread and just be glad there is a
Redhat linux ect..(or something along these lines).

Well I am gonna sound rude here.

I am a new user with linux. I am not a 10 year vet with UNIX. In
fact until I recieved my RH 4.0 boxset. Now I decided to BUY
RH 4.0 for a few reasons: 1) It was represented to me via RH
sales force that I would recieve tech support via fax and or email.
2) I was informed by the Sales force that RH fully supported
all the hardware in my machine that hadnt been supported
in prior releases. 3) The RH sales force insured me that I would
also recieve free of charge any updates for RH 4.0, be it the
inet or some other media form.

With these facts and others in hand, I said ok I will dole out the
50 bucks and order RH 4.0. Well much to my dismay RH 4.0 is
not fully compatible with all the HW in my machine. I do not
think the sales woman I spoke with tried to mislead me, I think
she may have been misinformed about what RH did and did not
support.

Now, I go proceed to install RH 4.0 (boxset) read the book very
carefully, follow all the instructions, read the HOWTO's(which I
might add, are not all current with Colgate's changes and new
hardware). Well things dont go very well and I turn to RH for help.
I fill out the necessary forms, I send in the proper requests. I wait,
I wait, I wait and I wait. Now what? My 60 days of free support are
almost out and I still dont have any answers. And according to
some of you I am just supposed to say ah well, tough?

1) Redhat 4.0 after 10 attempts on fresh installs does not support
or I havnt been able to get it to work, the Ensoniq Soundscape
sound card.

2) Redhat 4.0 does not support the HP Colorado 1400 Tape Back Up
Unit. I have read all the howto's and done everything I was supposed
to do according to them and still nadda.

3) RH sales force explained to me that Redhat 4.0 supported the
Gateway Vivitron 1776 17" monitor as well as the Matrox MGA Mill.
2meg to 4meg video card. In video modes above 800x600, WRONG!!

Well I am sorry if you dont like the fact that I am pissed off and feel
just a little friggen bitter over the fact that I laid out 50 bucks for
this
while under the impression I was gonna be able to get a little help
if things didnt go perfect. It wouldnt bother me a bit if RH would have
said, well we are sorry but due to the HUGE amount of help requests
you can expect delays of up to several weeks at a time. And b/c of
this we will extend our service agreements to help accomidate those
users who have purchesed RH 4.0. See how much easier that would
be? See how just something like that would stall and ease people's
nerves?

Well again sorry I am no friggen UNIX god bub, and sorry that I get
a little annoyed when I am told one thing and something else happens.

Dave
