I posted this a while back, but received no fixes to the problem
and still have not managed to make this work. So, I'm going to try this
again.
I have a Colgate-4.0 i386 machine (with all patches up through Nov 20, kernel
2.0.25) on a network with some Sun machines (running SunOS 4.x), although I
don't see that the problem is with the Sun's. My Colgate machine (borabora)
has a directory exported (/home/mikeb) that the Sun's can NFS mount.
However, if they don't manually mount it and do an "ls /net/borabora", the
Colgate machine does not report the NFS exports. It seems that the Colgate
machine is not answering the RPC request. I can do an:
rpcinfo -b 100003 2
from any of the hosts (including the Colgate) and they all respond except
for the Colgate machine. In the /etc/secure log, I get:
borabora portmap[459]: connect from 1.2.3.4 to callit (nfs): request
not forwarded
where 1.2.3.4 is the IP of the machine trying to do the mount or doing
the 'rpcinfo' request. Does PAM intervene with these requests?
By the way, on my Colgate machine, I can do "ls /net/otherhostname" and
have the Sun exports automatically mounted. It's the other way around that
I'm needing.
Anybody have any ideas on this? Does anybody have this arrangment
working?
