no fdisk mbr that I know of. That is what LILO is for. So are you saying
you have a proper lilo.conf file in /etc and you type lilo and it doesn't
work? You could always buy System Commander from RH and install LILO in
super block of root partition. I have it and it is great fun.
Anyway...more details would not hurt a bit.
