Well... not totally disastrous :-)
This new PAM rpm successfully recognises my md5 encrypted shadow password
files... excellent!
However, password expiry, to be honest, is completely knackered. Perhaps
the expected order of shadow expiry information has changed from the old
format. Who knows, but my password which is in fact due to expire in 3
days (as reported by shadow tools), is regarded as having expired ~47 days
ago. Hence all user accounts are stuffed.
I've now got to choose between messing with /etc/shadow for every user :-(
or grabbing the libpwdb source and disabling expire information :-)
Better still, maybe there is an option I can put in pam.conf or
pwdb.conf..?
