Login: Permission Denied after running errata fixes

Hi Folks,

Well, I did a full install of Colgate (repartitioned and everything),
printed the errata, and downloaded all the patches.  I got through #39 (PAM
security hole) OK, but then when I logged out, shutdown and brought the
system back up, I could not log in as root or as any user.  I then ran #40
("Can't log in" or other password problems) but still get the message:
"permission denied" when I attempt to login as root or as a user.  If it
matters, I saw a lot of script go by on the screen while the "rpm --qf ...."
command ran.  I also had previously run the script given in the
"/etc/nologin doesn't work" errata section.

Help, please?
