rpm.2.2.8 and Glint

I'm running RedHat 3.03, kernel 1.2.13 and in order to upgrade to
kernel 2.0, I've upgraded rpm to 2.2.8, but Glint now fails to recognize
packages and gives the error message
only packages with major numbers <=2 are supported by this version of RPM
However I am able to install these packages manually with
rpm -i --nodeps linux.jdk.shared......
for example. Furthermore after the manual installation, glint can see the
installed package and verify it.
Can anybody help? I did see a similar message on the archives, but no
reply to it.
