I've been using "dump" and "restore". I do a level 0 dump on the
rewinding tape device --- it reports completion and rewinding of the
tape, .... and hangs. I reboot and check the dump by doing a test
extraction of a few files --- the extraction works properly, but the
restore process hangs after I tell it to quit. In other words, I can
use the tape drive as long as I reboot between usages. (Killing the process
leaves a zombie stuck in an uninterruptible syscall and the tape device
"busy".)
Dump, restore, tar, mt, taper, etc. all worked flawlessly with 3.0.3 as
delivered from SWT --- the problem only appeared after upgrading to Colgate.
BTW, my /dev directory is organized:
crw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 0 Jul 1 14:51 /dev/st0
crw-rw---- 1 root disk 9, 128 Jul 1 14:51 /dev/nst0
I've been using /dev/st0. I think next time I'll try using /dev/nst0
and let the drive rewind itself when I press the eject button. Still,
I'd like to get the driver properly configured.
Oh yes, my SCSI controller is
"NCR53c810 at memory 0xf7fff000, io 0xe000, irq 11"
