I am not sure if it supports anything else but printing
ASCII is everything he needs. I have one more question:
What would be the most apropriate printcap entry for that
printer? Print jobs go through the filter only if
printcap is configured, right? E.g. we were trying
to use:
#### laserjet 600x600 letter 1
lp:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx#0:\
:lp=:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:\
:sh:
As we can see it's not Brother-specific. Can we be more
specific, e.g. some printers are configured with their
names in the first lines and pipes something like:
:hplj|blah|blah|:something:
or
:|dot-matrix:|whatever:|
How does lpd knows that "hplj" is good but if I just
write anything off top of my head, it says "such and such:
printer unknown".
