Xdefaults Mystery with Metrox

I'm running RedHat 4.0 with a Matrox Millennium 4meg board
using Metrox from the RedHat distribution. For some reason
at random times I seem to be losing my parameters loaded
from my .Xdefaults file.
I can correct this problem for a random period of time just
by reloading them, with xrdb -load .Xdefaults. This may work
for an hour or a day, but sooner or later it quits and things
default back to their orginal settings.

Has anyone else seen this behavior with Metrox ?
Any and all idea's welcome, I just can't seem to pin this
down to a program or application that I'm running.

Thanks,
