XFree86/MetroX config for Cirrus Logic 7548

I'm attempting to get X configured on a WinBook FX with a
Cirrus Logic CLDG 7548 (the docs claim it a 7543 -- it isn't)
MetroX shows support for 754x, but MetroX exits immediately
claiming an unknown Cirrus Logic chipset. Shortly thereafter
the machine seizes up and the power must be cycled.
Does XFree86 3.2 support this chipset? (3.1 doesn't), or is
there a compatible chipset that is supported? I've done some
experimentation, but no luck so far. Your suggestions are
welcomed!
