didn't recompile - chose the ide for /, the scsi for /usr, usr/src, etc, etc,...
during the initial install when asked if a scsi adapter is in the box...

slackware 3.0, kernel v 2.0.0 versus redhat 4.0
both distributions should be the same kernel versions, so what gives?

i did a complete instal( i.e. install everything) for both slackware and
redhat...

YES

with slackware, you put the params in during the install, not disimilar to
redhat, the exact procedure is slightly different, but essentially all the
information input during the install is identical
