I am currently contemplating replacing my DEC 434/5 ethernet card
because my Win9$ balks every time it boots up and sees it. However I
had a very very painful experience getting the 434 to work with RH4 and
I am really not in the mood to trash my Linux partition again.
My question is: Is there any somewhat less painful way for Linux to
detect a new network card with an existing installation? When I first
installed RH4 on my machine here at work I declared the card as a
DECchip 21040-based PCI ethernet card and it choked too. When I
reinstalled RH4 I selected the first entry from the top of a list of
cards that it supported that didn't cause Linux to puke. (I guess I got
lucky.)
The card that my boss gave me is labeled TRENDnet TE-16XP/CT. Is this
supported by Linux?
PS -- life sucks without a backspace key
