    The third one was the problem.  My system had

    /usr/src/linux -> /usr/src/linux-1.2.13

When I did the CD upgrade it failed at the part where I chose
to have it create a boot floppy (LILO upgrade bug again).

   Now I wonder what else is wrong as a result of that upgrade
program failing.
