At work I'm using Redhat-4.0 with the XFree X server.
The PC is a Compaq Presario 633 with a et4000 graphics adaptor and 16Mb or
RAM. I see ocasionally that the X screen freezes completely during about
30 seconds, and then continues to work properly afterwards. I thought the
problem was the PC's hardware, but then discovered that I can still use
the pc as normal from a telnet connection. Thus the problem appears to be
related to the X server.
At home, using a different card (Cirrus) I haven't experienced this
problem. Is it a know problem with XFree, or a problem with the rpm?
As there are now developement XFree-3.2 rpms at the redhat site: is it
possible that I will not experience the problem I am having using the
newer binaries, and thus the "upgrade" may be a sensible choice?
I'd appreciate any comments from anyone who has experienced similar
problems to the ones I'm experiencing now.
