Well,
One problem with FIPS is that it does not change the cluster size;
If you change the DOS/Windows partitions size to a much smaller
one, then the cluster size is larger than necessary, resulting
in a lot of disk space lost on a DOS/Windows partitions.
(if you have n files/directories no a disk, and cluster size is
32kB, than you will have on average n*16kB of space lost, or even more
if there are lots of small files).
I had 1.08 GB disk with preinstalled DOS/Windows; then I have used FIPS
to shrukn it to two 250 MB partitions (and the erst for 2 Linux
installations);
At one moment I realized that I had about 50 MB of space lost on my
C drive because of excessively large cluster size ...
In general, if you have an easy way to do backup/restore,
I would suggest going that way rather than FIPS.
