Been there, done that! (About sixteen times, before I figgered it out. Sigh.)
There's a directory, /lib/modules/2.0.xx. That has the modules that came with
the original kernel. When you remade the kernel, the old modules did not go
away.
Bad Thing.
I deleted the all the files in /lib/modules/2.0.18 and (because I like to kill
gnats with sledgehammers) remade the whole kernel, modules, did "make
modules_install" again, the whole works. Probably it is sufficient to just do
"make modules_install" (I'm sure others will correct me on this), but I was
tired of screwing around with it.
After I deleted the old modules and redid the kernels and modules, I was happy.
Until I tried to configure my printer for nenscript... :)
