You probably run another 'graphics-oriented' program before Netscape, and
you only have set up your X server to only 256 colors.
Put it another way, your computer is set up such that it can only display
256 colors at any single time. Now, let's assume you, say, open a picture
in, say, XV. And the picture has, say, 214 colors. Any other program you
open has access to maximum of (256-214) colors. What Netscape is telling
you is that there are not as many colors available to Netscape as it likes
to use. The cure? Well, you either need to set up your X server to a higher
number of colors (if your hardware supports it), or you need to close all
'graphic-oriented' programs before starting Netscape. The third way, is to
set Netscape to use "private color map". That means that no matter how many
colors are already used by other programs, Netscape has access to all the
colors. Drawback is that when you move the mouse pointer in and out of
Netscape window, color of everything on the screen changes. You'll know
what I mean once you try it :-)
