ummm... well, yes lance, to use it "at all" it would have to be active,
but if you don't use it all the time, it would not have to be active all
the time. I have found it to be ok to start it at boot and leave it
active all the time, After I was done troubleshooting it and making it
work rather darn flawlessly, :)

POP3 is mail retrieval server, from ISP to YOU. SMTP is mail server,
from you to ISP.
